Objective:
In the short term, North American Van Lines (NAVL) wanted to quickly increase earnings and pay down debt, and in the longer term create the environment where they could make acquisitions.

Former President and CEO Barry Uber saw in the EHS process the opportunity to improve the economics of both NAVL and the independent agent force without upsetting the delicate balance between them. It was crucial that the agents supported the initiative and didn't see it as the parent improving its own economics at the agents' expense.
