John has 20 years of experience leading, building and advising over a dozen companies, both as a line manager and as a consultant. He has worked in both Fortune 500 and start-up environments in a range of industries including consumer products, e-commerce, venture capital, telecom, semiconductor, biotech and aerospace.
Prior to joining EHS, John was co-founder and president of Outside Labs, a consumer products company that develops proprietary sun care, wound care and muscle treatments to improve athletic performance. The company's consumer-facing brands include K2 Endurance Suncare, in partnership with K2 Sports, and SCAPE Athlete Products, which are geared toward world-class athletes across multiple sports.
Previous to Outside Labs, John was a Principal with Stone Canyon Venture Partners, a private equity firm focused on investing in and growing consumer businesses. Prior to Stone Canyon, John held founder and senior leadership roles in two start-ups, including The .tv Corporation ("dot-tv") which he helped grow from zero to $40 million in revenue before its acquisition by VeriSign in 2002.
Prior to dot-tv, John worked as a management consultant with McKinsey & Company for over five years. He began his career as an aerospace engineer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
Education
John earned his MBA at Harvard University, both M.S. and Engineering degrees in Aeronautics from Caltech, and his B.S. in Engineering Physics from University of California, Berkeley.
